Getting Around, Piura Travel and Piura Transport

There are a number of different ways that you can travel to Piura - flying by air, arriving by bus, or even more unusually by sea. The proximity of the Pan-American Highway means bus transport around Piura is extremely reliable, with excellent connections throughout the province and beyond.

On the eastern side of the city's San Miguel bridge, the Terminal el Castillo is a busy bus terminal, where a choice of transport is available, with many buses choosing to travel in an easterly direction, to neighbouring towns. However, if you are planning to travel from Piura to Cajamarca and through the very scenic northern Andes, it is often easiest to simply catch a bus from Chiclayo.

Located on the eastern side of Piura and just 2 km / 1 mile from the city centre, the Capitán FAP Guillermo Concha Iberico International Airport stands on the south-eastern bank of the Piura River. This air facility is government owned and serves as the region's main airport. Daily flights to Lima are provided by LAN Airlines, while there are also limited connections to Chiclayo. The usual airport tax applies here.

Renting a car in Piura allows visitors the freedom to head north or south, along the Pan-American Norte Highway, reaching destinations such as Sullana, Talara, San Martin, Quebrada Verde, La Bocana, Canoas, Caralito, Zorritos and Tumbes (north), and both Lambayeque and Chiclayo (south). If you are a little apprehensive of driving the car and travelling along Peru's notoriously hazardous roads yourself, then a happy compromise is to actually hire some taxi transport for the day - or longer, complete with your very own personal driver. This may sound a little on the extravagant side, but is very affordable in Peru and well worth considering.

Taxis are on hand and perfect for all kinds of journey, being exceptionally cheap in comparison to 'western' prices.

'Colectivo' taxis are shared private cars, as these tend to offer the very best value, often being used to reach Tumbes in around three and a half hours.
